I found my way to Chinese Medicine while trying to find answers for my own chronic health problems. After a rock climbing accident, where I spent about five years in Physio I was struggling with a cumulative impact on my mental health, digestion and then the pain and dysfunction from the accident. While trying to relearn how to move, I spent a great deal of time trying to understand the dynamic impact of impaired movement from an injury. What was borne out of that was the insight of looking at the whole body and it’s movement when treating pain.

From that experience to the loss of my son to leukemia, I began to understand that there is an important role that emotions, like grief, fear, anger etc....have in our healing. In Chinese Medicine, we learn that anything that doesn’t move properly creates pain, including emotions.

That brought me to what I love most about Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, its wholistic nature . When I sought help for pain and digestive problems, my emotions, my diet and my lifestyle became an important part of treatment, empowering me as a patient. This leads to one of the most important aspects of Chinese Medicine, which is treatment of the individual. I do not treat your disease, I treat you as a person. When you come in to see me, the most important thing I get from each visit is a deeper understanding of you as a person. That helps me understand how to help you, more than knowing the name of your disease. Watching your posture how you walk, how you breathe and how you express yourself provide valuable insight into how to help you heal.

My education includes:

  • Acupuncture/Chinese Medicine at MacEwan University

  • Aromatherapy at Aromahead School of Essential Oil Studies/Tisserand Institute

  • Biomechanics, posture, weight training and fitness at AFLCA

  • Trauma/attachment psychology at the Post Institute, Government of Alberta, University of Lethbridge, BYUI, NICABM/Lift Education

  • Personal Coaching Foundations - CTI, Strength Based Coaching - Strength Strategy/People Acuity

  • Herbalism at Academy of Holistic Healing Arts, Hunyan Academy, David Winston Center for Herbal Studies, East West School of Planetary Herbology

  • Korean and Classical Acupuncture with H.B. Kim, Toby Daly and Jonathon Snubbs

When I am not studying Chinese Medicine and Herbs or creating some herbal or medicinal concoction, I love gardening, walking, and spending time with my family.

It can be tough to navigate our modern-day world without physical pain, anxiety, depression, or questioning the state of our mental health along the way. We can often develop poor coping mechanisms and be completely unaware of the true culprits to our ailments. It is essential to identify imbalances in the body, mind, and spirit because it can lead to further issues and illness if left untreated. You know the saying, ‘you’re only as strong as your weakest link,’ which is why holistic practices are so powerful as it embraces the concept that your body functions as a cohesive system.

I’ve always had a longing to help others in need, even while I was bearing the weight of my own stressful situations and traumatic experiences. While studying Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, I recognized that I needed to grow and heal myself. Applying what I learned in my studies to my own well-being gifted me with the ability to empathize and identify disharmony in my clients with a zero-judgement approach. I don't only treat my clients for physical pain; I also support them emotionally and spiritually. I listen and help educate my clients to equip them with the knowledge, resources, the ability to believe in themselves and offer solutions to help manage their health concerns and everyday life stressors. I will educate and advocate for you in your pursuit of feeling and becoming your best self. People often forget the magic and strength they possess within themselves, and I would love to help you find it.

In my spare time, I enjoy sharing life with my three mostly grown children, creating art, and maintaining an active lifestyle. My work is my passion, I am continually taking additional training or reading various literature from 21st-century holistic medicine practices to neurology breakthroughs. I believe it is essential that I am constantly expanding my skills and techniques in such areas as sports acupuncture and neurology, so that I can continue to offer diverse treatment solutions to my clients.

I have always been fascinated by the human body, especially the brain and psyche. I graduated from the University of Alberta in 2012 with a B.Sc. Specialization in Psychology. After working in the healthcare field as a psychometrist and research assistant, I knew I wanted to approach treating the mind-body-spirit from a more wholistic, energetic approach. Having personally utilized Acupuncture for decades to manage stress, support my pregnancies, eliminate allergies, and manage pain, I knew the versatility and comprehensiveness of Traditional Chinese Medicine would offer me the tools to properly diagnose and treat psychological and physical ailments that are often misunderstood. I made the leap to enroll in the Macewan Acupuncture Program from this desire to understand the body at a deeper wholistic level, and I have loved every second of learning this beautiful form of medicine.

My goal for every treatment is to nurture an open and honest relationship, meet you where you are at, set realistic health goals, and provide motivation, guidance, and education for you to find balance in your body-mind-spirit.

Outside of the clinic you can find me wrangling my two young boys, spending time caring for the animals and garden on my hobby farm, canoeing down the North Saskatchewan River, and making lopsided pottery.

Growing up on a farm I’ve always been passionate about helping people and animals. Whether looking after my grandparents or taking in a stray or injured animal, I’ve always known at some point that I’d find myself in a form of healthcare as a profession. That passion lead me towards massage therapy, and after completing my 2200 hour massage therapy program at MH Vicars School of Massage Therapy, I received my diploma. Throughout the years I also gained a Healthcare Aid Certificate, and worked with seniors in Long Term Care for many years. I am currently enrolled in a 4 year program to achieve a diploma as an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner, and am planning on furthering my education to also gain an Osteopathic Animal Practitioner Diploma.

Taylyr has dedicated her practice to understanding the art of massage therapy, integrating trauma-informed practices, sound healing, hot stones and breathwork into her sessions. Driven by her innate desire to serve others, Taylyr embarked on a journey of self-discovery and professional development, pursuing certifications in massage therapy, trauma-informed care, kundalini yoga, yoga nidra and somatic breathwork. In her practice, Taylyr approaches each session with compassion, sensitivity, and a tender understanding of the complexities of trauma. She creates a safe and nurturing space for clients to explore their emotions, release tension, and reconnect with their bodies in a gentle
and supportive manner. One of the cornerstones of Taylyr’s practice is her incorporation of sound healing into massage sessions. Guided by the belief that sound has the power to soothe the soul and restore balance to the body, she utilizes a variety of instruments, including crystal singing bowls, koshi chimes, an ocean drum and rattles, to create a symphony of healing vibrations that envelop clients in a cocoon of tranquility and peace.
In addition to sound healing, Taylyr enhances the therapeutic experience with the use of hot towels and hot stones. The warmth of the towels and stones penetrates deep into the muscles, melting away tension and promoting relaxation, while also soothing the nervous
system and calming the mind. With each session, Taylyr’s dedication to her clients' well-being shines through, as she guides them on a journey of self-discovery, healing, and transformation.
